So, who is this person that calls herself a Virtual Business Support Specialist?
About VMA! This is not a Facebook Timeline, but let’s go ahead and give you an idea of who I am, where I come from and what are the benefits of working with a professional.
For starters, I was never very good at working inside an “established” workforce.
I remember at 14 years old, I told my mother that one day I would “run” my own company…and that was it. Well, needless to say my comment did raise a few eyebrows, and for sure the answer that I received was: “Chris, you better study, because you’re going to have a rough road ahead”.
Study I did, and as much as a women studying Finance or Commerce was still something of a novelty in those days, I graduated 4th of my class with a DEC in Social Science / Commerce Option from the CEGEP St. Jean sur Richelieu.
Having a very strong interest for anything that had to do with Finance, better yet, the Stock Market, I decided that learning from the best was my destiny, and applied for a Stockbroker Assistant’s position with one of the top Stockbrokerage firms in Montreal. I was happy; I was in the thick of it! From there, I learned the ropes and before I knew it, took the Canadian Securities Courses, received my certificate (my highest mark was 93% in Portfolio Management) and totally enjoyed my employment for many years as an Executive Stockbrokers’ Assistant!
So with that said, did I ever start my own company?
Well, I did. As a matter of fact, twice! My first foray was as the Owner/Operator of an Interior Design company situated on the West Island in Montreal, and the second, as CFO for a Printing company my husband and I had created.
Yes, you calculated properly, my 25th birthday was…a “little” while back!
From the first day I was asked to work with one of those “computer things” I was hooked. And I mean, Totally Hooked. OK, I admit, I remember the dark screen with green letters. Yes, I worked with WordPerfect and Lotus, (and some other forgotten software) and…I even remember when the Internet first started! Everything that had to do with the Web and computers simply fascinated me. I was like a little kid in a candy shop and I wanted to know it all! I wanted to touch all the buttons, take the computer apart, and play around with coding I knew nothing about. Yes, I was a “Geek” in the making.
Quite a few years ago, I remember reading an article about Virtual Assistance, and how it was going to change the way we all worked. Why do I remember? It made a strong impression on me… And from that day on, I started researching the possibilities of working from my own home office.
Yes, it was time for a change, and I wanted to be “Master of my Own Domain” in every sense of the word. By 2007, my dream finally became a reality, and Virtual Managing Associates opened its doors the same year!
My outlook is simple. There is always something new to learn, a challenge to master, and a lending hand to offer. Working as a successful business owner and taking care of the ones I love is important to me. I have set my life rules by this, and I stick to them.
